What is hand-graining?

A centuries-old technique by which the leather craftsperson creates a beautiful pattern onto full grain leather. These patterns get permanently embossed into the leather,  enhancing its beauty with a very distinctive, unique character.

Our version is heavily inspired by the world-renowned french tannery, Alran. We have strived to make a grain pattern with the same technique they use for their Chèvre leathers, specifically the hand grained Madras goat skins.

The natural, unique pattern is created by the artisan using his two bare hands; not in a mechanical tumble drum, nor using heat stamping. Simply handmade with a lot of love and elbow grease.
